Prayer Ministry

Prayer Pond

Prayer is the heartbeat of Chronic Joy Ministry.

Welcome to the Chronic Joy Ministry Prayer Pond, where you can share your prayer requests, updates, and shouts of praise. At Chronic Joy, we’re passionate about prayer. That’s why every Monday is #PrayerMonday, an invitation to pray for this ministry, for those affected by chronic physical and/or mental illness, and for each prayer request tossed into our Prayer Pond. Whether a request, praise, lament, suffering, loss, hope, grief, or joy, each prayer ripples far beyond this day and the boundaries of our world.
How often we hear, “Prayer is the least I can do,” when in reality, prayer is the most we can do. As we connect with our Heavenly Father and with one another in prayer, our serving hearts both grow and thrive.

Prayer Pond

You are a precious, vital member of the Kingdom of God and of this community. We’re glad you’re here. Grateful for your presence. Blessed to lift you in prayer.

May God bless you and keep you today and always.

Gail Godwin

I have many allergies and multiple chemical sensitivities. I have developed severe food allergies. I've lost 40 lbs. and am now down to 96 lbs. I can only eat 3 foods and have to eat often because of hypoglycemia. I am having to spend a lot of time in bed because of weakness. Doctors treatments don't work or I have reactions to treatments. I would appreciate prayers for ability to eat more food again.

Dear fellow sufferers,

I hardly know where to start writing this, but a bit of my history so you know how to pray. I was born premature at 1 lb, (am 53 now) have rare genetic disorders, rare chronic issues that no doctor has been able to figure out yet, had 35 surgeries, 15 of them on my eyes, in the end I lost the one eye (have prosthesis) the other one, thankfully, is doing good. Have rare pituitary disease, was in a serious accident which left me with even more pain, late stage Lyme disease, fibromyagia, chronic exhaustion, and a host of other chronic disorders. Been married to a wonderful precious husband who has faithfully walked beside me for 30 years, (celebrated 30th last year) for which I am very grateful. We both became Christians after we got married, and he's been an amazing support but he is struggling a lot right now as well. I have seen dozens of doctors over the years, some of whom have given me "temporary relief" but nothing lasts. I'm sure many of you can relate to that. In the past couple months I've had 3 more surgeries back-to-back, and have been very sick. I do love Jesus but I feel weary & forsaken to where I feel God doesn't care anymore either. (which I know in my heart isn't true, but I still feel that way) I used to feel God could use me in the midst of my suffering, and I don't feel that anymore. The physical pain is extremely difficult, but the pain in my heart is even greater by people "in the church", who aren't understanding. (but we are thankful for those who do care) The medical expenses are too great for us anymore, and that is a huge burden. Everything is overwhelming, especially with recovering from the last surgeries, (the last one was 2 weeks ago) and after all those years of chronic pain and exhaustion, I feel everything has come crashing down on me. I feel hopeless, and in despair. Is there someone out there that can pray that I can have hope. I would be so grateful. Thank you very much! Anna

This is a praise report for my brother, Don, who was in ICU with unexplained bleeding, diarrhea, nausea, and heart failure. He was finally able to sit up and start eating on his own! They have found a diagnosis of Grave's Disease that was out of control, and he is being treated for that in a Rehab facility now. Praise God for answers! Please continue to pray for his wife, Joyce, who is still in chemo for an aggressive breast cancer.

Edmund Krzeminski

We read in Ezekiel 22:30: "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none."

O God, please help us and teach us to build a wall of prayer around the world. Are you ready to stand in the gap, where God is the Helper and Teacher?

Please also pray for my family:

1. Stir up the hearts of my family for ministry - for me, my wife Dorothy, our daughter Ann, and our sons Peter and Daniel - "..but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15

2. Pray for God's will, wisdom, discernment, revelation and recognition for me and my family; I ask God for Edmund’s work situation, God's direction for Edmund, Dorothy, Peter, Daniel and Ann (also God's protection over the company where she works)

3. God's order in my work. I ask God for great wisdom at my work. Blessings and the knowledge of Jesus Christ for my bosses. Thank God for the continuation of my work.

Chronic Joy

Would you join with us in prayer this week:

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for telling us that we are Your sheep, and You are the Shepherd. Thank You, Jesus, that You have fulfilled those dear promises in Psalm 23 that many of us grew up repeating:

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

(Psalm 23:1-4)

And so Lord would You show us how You are here with us in our darkest days? We confess that sometimes we feel that we are stranded with awful diseases directing our course. Oh, but Thank You, Lord, that YOU are the One asking us to follow You along the right path, even here in the deepest valley. Thank You that You are guiding us to lie down in Your safety, and rest in You. Thank You that You have given us Your protection so that we can offer our fears up to You. We love You, our Sweet Shepherd.

In Your Name, Jesus, we pray,

Genetic Testing has recently been advised for my daughter Evelyn. I’m praying that this is in Gods plan as well. Pray if God desires this that insurance and the Doctors along the way will show us grace and mercy.

Also. Thank you for connecting E with a pen pal. It takes her a long time to build trust to open up so I pray those walls will break down sooner and she will know she has another person to share with and trust

Chronic Joy

We invite you to join us as we pray together this week:

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the honor it is to bring our prayers to you. We come to you today remembering the Words You have given us in Psalm 63:6-7 “On my bed I remember You; I think of You through the watches of the night. Because You are my help, I sing in the shadow of Your wings.” Thank You for the promise that You will be our help, even as we lie awake through those night watches. When our hearts are too burdened to sleep, when the pain jolts us out of sleeping, will You remind us that You hear our cry even then? Help us to lift our prayers to You for our loved ones. We pray for those who might also be lying awake, hurting and not knowing that the Lord of Heaven is concerned for them. Would You stir in their hearts, too? Thank You that we can lift our prayers as singing in the sweet place of the shadow of Your wings.

In the name of Jesus we pray,

Bettie Gilbert

Thank you all for your prayers for my Sister-in-law who is undergoing chemo for a very aggressive form of breast cancer. She is handling it very well, which is such a miracle, especially at this time, because my brother is now in the hospital. He has heart disease with a heart that functions at only 30% of normal capacity. A few weeks ago he had some hidden internal bleeding, and since then he's had severe vomiting and diarrhea and the Doctors cannot figure out why. Will you pray for Don and Joyce to find answers and the Lord's strength through all of this.

Card Ministry

Would you like to offer a kind word, encouragement, an inspiring quote, or prayer to a fellow chronic illness traveller? On hard days when it seems almost impossible to take one more step, sometimes it soothes the spirit to extend ourselves a bit. Writing a note to a fellow traveller could be just that.

And it’s simple to do!

Stop by the Prayer Pond and as you read through the requests, when God tugs at your heart, pause and pray, then consider writing a note, card or letter to encourage that person too.

Or let us choose. You write the note of encouragement and we’ll choose the recipient.

Send your card to: Card Ministry, c/o Chronic Joy, 1015 Lemira Circle, Waukesha, WI 53188 and we’ll send it on for you.

Would you like to receive a note of encouragement? We invite you to sign-up, and as our mailbox fills up, we’ll forward a little love to you.

From time to time our hearts are moved to send old-school notes to those in our community. May we bless you with tangible expressions of love and community?   *US residents only.

Would you like to send a note or letter offering prayer and encouragement?  Mail your unsealed cards and letters to us and we will send them on to someone in our community.

Acquainted with Grief | Prayer Prompt

Acquainted with Grief     Strange acquaintance for the Son of God! The brightness of glory, and the express image of the Father’s person! But He came into our world on purpose that He might know by experience all that His people had suffered; yea, all that His people deserved. He had heard of sorrow. He had seen it in others. But He had never felt it Himself. He took our nature. He...

Worship at His Footstool | Prayer Prompt

In times of distress and heartache sometimes the only thing to do is to place ourselves in humble submission before our great God.When doubt floods into our minds, there is a comfort to be found as we look away from our situation to the vastness and holiness of our Lord. But what do the words mean, here, “to worship at his footstool?”  When we look into the Barnes Notes on the Bible...

Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. Psalm 99:5 KJV

The Way of the Heart: Connecting with God Through Prayer, Wisdom, and Silence

Henri J.M. Nouwen

Inspired by the ancient teachings of St. Anthony and the Desert Fathers,The Way of the Heart clears before us a spiritual path consisting of three stepping-stones: Solitude (learning not to be alone but to be alone with God); Silence (the discipline by which the inner fire of God is tended and kept alive); and Prayer (standing in the presence of God with the mind in the heart).

Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation

Ruth Haley Barton

Do you long for a deep, fundamental change in your life with God? Do you desire a greater intimacy with God? Do you wonder how you might truly live your life as God created you to live it? Spiritual disciplines are activities that open us to God’s transforming love and the changes that only God can bring about in our lives. Picking up on the monastic tradition of creating a “rule of life” that allows for regular space for the practice of the spiritual disciplines, this book takes you more deeply into understanding seven key disciplines along with practical ideas for weaving them into everyday life.

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God

Timothy Keller

Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But few receive instruction or guidance in how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act.

The Deep Place Where Nobody Goes: Conversations with God on the Steps of My Soul

Jill Briscoe

This collection of short stories, reflections, and poems from Jill Briscoe centers on the theme of our relationship with God, and how that relationship must be our daily priority in good times and bad.
