Prayer Ministry

Prayer Pond

Prayer is the heartbeat of Chronic Joy Ministry.

Welcome to the Chronic Joy Ministry Prayer Pond, where you can share your prayer requests, updates, and shouts of praise. At Chronic Joy, we’re passionate about prayer. That’s why every Monday is #PrayerMonday, an invitation to pray for this ministry, for those affected by chronic physical and/or mental illness, and for each prayer request tossed into our Prayer Pond. Whether a request, praise, lament, suffering, loss, hope, grief, or joy, each prayer ripples far beyond this day and the boundaries of our world.
How often we hear, “Prayer is the least I can do,” when in reality, prayer is the most we can do. As we connect with our Heavenly Father and with one another in prayer, our serving hearts both grow and thrive.

Prayer Pond

You are a precious, vital member of the Kingdom of God and of this community. We’re glad you’re here. Grateful for your presence. Blessed to lift you in prayer.

May God bless you and keep you today and always.

Chronic Joy

Dear Father,

Thank you for those that You have given us to love:

"I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers." Ephesians 1:16

Thank you for their lives. Thank you for the ways that they have impacted our lives. And now we lift them before You, and ask that You would meet every need that weighs them down. Carry our loved ones through their hard days. Stir their hearts to be filled with thanksgiving for Your love also. We are flooded with the joy of being able to pray for those we love.

In the name of Your son, Jesus, we pray,

Chronic Joy

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for the new life that you have brought to us:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Oh, help us during the days when we feel so weary and worn to remember that You have created us anew. Help us to lift our prayers for those we love to know the new life that is given from You also. Thank You for the washing clean that You have brought to us, the new way of living that You have won for us, and the new creation that You have woven into the deep places of our heart. Praise You for Your gift of life.

In Your name we pray,

Really struggling. Have a lot of dx’s that have no cures. Severe Tmj (need surgery but not healthy enough becuz I can barely eat) mast cell activation syndrome, pots, mold sickness, gut issues (no dx yet as my body can’t handle a colonoscopy) EDS, most recent probable endometriosis,

Also am at sensitive to foods, chemicals, drugs, ect. Losing weight quick, blood markers showing immune system is struggling, can barely eat, Gi issues getting worse, chronic pain 24/7, barely sleep, lost my job, apartment, ability to take care of my son and am having to live at home where I deal with an addict and verbal abuse, I have little to no support emotionally or physically, I feel far from God, all I know to do is pray and cry, but things only get worse it seems, have a hard time trusting him in all this, fear grips me all the time, have been given no hope, scared of dying, I need reunited with my husband, we have been looking for a safe house for me since last winter, we got separated due to mold, ive never recovered from it and it’s been found where I’m living as well, I’m going thru a dark deep depression and despair along with fear and loneliness. I feel like I’m dying a slow death, I fear that I won’t be with Jesus when I go. I miss my son. Where I am there aren’t drs that deal with complex cases like mine. Idk what to do or say anymore. People think I’m crazy and don’t believe me. My marriage has gotten tougher the worse I get and the longer we are separated from not being able to find a house due to the market. We can just move anywhere becuz my husband still has 2 kids to tend to and a job. I can’t drive myself places like to farther away drs becuz my chronic pain is so bad. Been dealing with intense symptoms the last few weeks with one trip to the Er becuz my bowels weren’t moving, still having issues, on a really restricted diet and I can’t eat much so I need help, I only get my husband’s help twice a month for a few days at a time, he just left yesterday, I’m a mess emotionally. I see visions of my death all the time and it’s scary and makes me break down in tears. I’m tormented I feel like by demons day in and day out, have nightmares when I am able to sleep, memory is very bad, trouble breathing quite a bit, no peace, just fear and despair and hopelessness all the time. I need support. I feel abandoned by God. Didn’t come to him til much later in life. It’s hard to get in my bible due to how I feel all the time.

Hard to know what to pray anymore. I just want to be able to eat and sleep and walk around, simple basic things. My faith is struggling. Did I mention I miss my son terribly. The grief I endure is overwhelming daily. I need so many prayers. I need support. If anyone is willing to call me that would be great. It feels more real to me to have a voice or body near me then texting. Thank you.

Chronic Joy

Dear Father,

Thank You for the prayers uttered by those who have gone before us:

Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. (Psalms 80:3 NIV)

What a comfort to know that we are joining with the saints as we cry out for restoration! Thank You that we are not alone as we long for the shining of Your blessed face upon us. And thank You that our salvation comes from You alone. Hear our cries echoing through the ages, O God. We are looking to You, our true Lord.

In the name of Your Son, Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Chronic Joy

Dear Father,

Thank You for giving us Your Word, helping us to know how to pray for those we love:

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,” Ephesians 1:18

Will You open our eyes to know the hope of Your calling, even as we pray for those we care about? Open our hearts to know that we have been called to a glorious inheritance with Your holy people. Remind us that the trials we face will fade away when we stand in Your presence, fully rejoicing in our inheritance with You. Thank You for the beauty of Your hope that can never be taken away.

In the name of Your son, Jesus, we pray,

I am in some much pain in every way still praying, but don’t feel close to God or my husband! Been challenging marriage as husband's health and now six years. I had accident leaving me with TN, ms and vasculitis! But other little problems! Please pray as passed end of rope! Just want to go to heaven! And the pain to stop, usually positive and go outing but not any more! Please pray as don’t know what to do! Thanks

Chronic Joy

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for showing us how to live and for giving us such words of blessing:

“Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,

for yours is the kingdom of God.” Luke 6:20

Help us to see that on the days we feel so poor and weak—it is right here that we have been given Your very own kingdom! Help us to lift our weaknesses to You so that You can bring Your words of life into our days. Show us how we can pray for those we care about, that they might see Your kingdom also. We praise You today for bringing the kingdom of God to us.

In Your name we pray,

Card Ministry

Would you like to offer a kind word, encouragement, an inspiring quote, or prayer to a fellow chronic illness traveller? On hard days when it seems almost impossible to take one more step, sometimes it soothes the spirit to extend ourselves a bit. Writing a note to a fellow traveller could be just that.

And it’s simple to do!

Stop by the Prayer Pond and as you read through the requests, when God tugs at your heart, pause and pray, then consider writing a note, card or letter to encourage that person too.

Who do you know that you could bless with a note of encouragement? Ask God who you could send a little #PenToPaper love, then just write from the heart – a scripture verse, an inspiring quote, a prayer, and/or a few few short sentences to brighten someone’s day.

Would you like to receive notes of encouragement? We invite you to sign-up, so encouraging and inspiring #PenToPaper snail mail and other fun printed materials can find their way to your mailbox.

Be Strong and Take Heart

Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;    my eyes grow weak with sorrow,    my soul and body with grief. My life is consumed by anguish    and my years by groaning;my strength fails because of my affliction,    and my bones grow weak.    I am the utter contempt of my neighborsand an object of dread to my closest friends—    those who see me on the street flee from me.  I am forgotten...

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

Prayer Prompts | Refuge: Finding God’s Upholding Strength

Refuge Support, sustain, uphold, carry: what do these words all have in common? Aren’t they words that speak about something that is weak, something that is small, something that needs to be held?  There are so many times in the journey with chronic illness when we are left feeling the depth of our smallness. Sometimes the temptation is to fight against that, to be the strong one who can...

Refuge: Finding God’s Upholding Strength

Prayer Prompt | Dwelling: A Place Where People Live

Dwell The Cambridge English Dictionary gives us that simple definition for the word dwelling: a place where people live. And yet, we each also dwell within these physical forms--our human bodies that are inherently lonely. No one else can feel the precise emotions we feel. No other person can hear the words that rumble around in our minds. There is not another one who can feel the exact pain...

The Way of the Heart: Connecting with God Through Prayer, Wisdom, and Silence

Henri J.M. Nouwen

Inspired by the ancient teachings of St. Anthony and the Desert Fathers,The Way of the Heart clears before us a spiritual path consisting of three stepping-stones: Solitude (learning not to be alone but to be alone with God); Silence (the discipline by which the inner fire of God is tended and kept alive); and Prayer (standing in the presence of God with the mind in the heart).

Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation

Ruth Haley Barton

Do you long for a deep, fundamental change in your life with God? Do you desire a greater intimacy with God? Do you wonder how you might truly live your life as God created you to live it? Spiritual disciplines are activities that open us to God’s transforming love and the changes that only God can bring about in our lives. Picking up on the monastic tradition of creating a “rule of life” that allows for regular space for the practice of the spiritual disciplines, this book takes you more deeply into understanding seven key disciplines along with practical ideas for weaving them into everyday life.

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God

Timothy Keller

Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But few receive instruction or guidance in how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act.

The Deep Place Where Nobody Goes: Conversations with God on the Steps of My Soul

Jill Briscoe

This collection of short stories, reflections, and poems from Jill Briscoe centers on the theme of our relationship with God, and how that relationship must be our daily priority in good times and bad.
