SEASON OF LENT

The Season of Lent is a time of pausing and reflecting about what our Lord Jesus has won for us: New Life in God, the salvation of our souls!

Every year, we come around to this time again, pondering the weight of what Jesus bore for us. He gave His life so that we might live. Some faith traditions ask us to think of ways we can fast from our own wants to make the pausing more meaningful. In our brokenness, He came for us; He offered up His strength in our weakness; in our sin, He brought the cleansing; in our burdens, He brought us new life in the family of God.

JESUS OUR SAVIOR

Broken in body
We bow before You
Cleanse us with Your
Living Water
Clothe us with Your
Royal garments
And We will praise You
Our Glorious Lord.

QUESTIONS TO PONDER THIS SEASON OF LENT

How can we not be overwhelmed with praise for this wondrous gift?

How can we not give back to Him our burdens, our lives?

PRAYERS FOR THE SEASON OF LENT

PRAYER #1

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:27 NASB)

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for bringing us into Your presence, for cleansing us through Your Living Water poured over us. Yet in this world we still feel our weaknesses and our lack so deeply. Would You open our eyes to see the beauty that You have brought to us? We have been clothed with YOUR royal robes. When we look at our tattered bodies, we realize how deeply we need Your precious and pure covering. You are such a wondrous Savior for us.

In the name of Jesus, we pray,

Amen.

PRAYER #2

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for being our great High Priest, the One who has opened the way to the Father:

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

Thank You for fully understanding our weaknesses. Thank You for seeing the weights that drag us down and cause us to feel like giving up. Oh, but thank You for not giving up on us! Thank You for bringing us Your own heart that we could continue to pray and to love in the same ways that You have. Help us now to offer our impossible prayers to You and to cling to You, our great High Priest.

In Your name we pray,

Amen.

PRAYER # 3

Dear Lord,

We praise You for calling us into Your family as Your sons and daughters:

Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. (Galatians 4:6-7)

Thank You that we can cry out our deepest longings to You, our intimate and dear Father. Open our eyes to see the beauty of the life of Your Son, Jesus, given for us, so that we too, could call You our Abba, Daddy. May we lift every request to You, and trust that You hear us because we are Your children. Lift our hearts away from cowering before You as a slave, to joyfully embrace Your nearness here. Help us to lift our prayers and our worship up to You, our own Heavenly Father.

In the name of Your son, Jesus, we pray,

Amen.

PRAYER #4

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for the new life that you have brought to us:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Oh, help us during the days when we feel so weary and worn to remember that You have created us anew. Help us to also lift our prayers for those we love to know the new life that is given from You. Thank You for the washing clean that You have brought to us, the new way of living that You have won for us, and the new creation that You have woven into the deep places of our heart. Praise You for Your gift of life.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
