We are thrilled to begin introducing you to the members of our inaugural Board of Directors! Each week, we’ll feature a new member here, and once they’ve each been introduced, their pictures and brief bios will be published on our Board of Directors page.
This week, we’re excited to introduce you to Heidi Peterson.
My name is Heidi Peterson, and I am a dedicated wife and mother to three amazing, beautiful children.
My journey with chronic illness started in my childhood when I learned that my two brothers and father had a genetic, neurological disease called Charcot-Marie-Tooth. In 2009, this journey continued when we were told our first, unborn child had a complex congenital heart defect called Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum. My life drastically changed. I left my job as a nurse to care for our daughter as her life consisted of many hospital visits, surgeries, and challenges that continue today.
In 2014, we realized our middle child was also struggling with emotions and behavior; he was later diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder and food allergies.
In my journey so far, chronic illness has taught me no matter how I have my life planned out, God has a plan much bigger. I have learned prayer is a very powerful blessing, and the presence of God is often seen and felt in many unexpected ways. Chronic illness comes with many emotions, struggles, and challenges; however, I am also reminded God is in this journey with me.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,” (Proverbs 3:5) is a Bible verse that was given as a gift to my daughter by a neighbor and a friend. This same friend has led me to Chronic Joy, and I am here today because I have felt joy in the face of chronic illness and want to help others believe they can too.
Radical hope. Compassionate change. Equipping those affected by chronic physical and mental illness through community and education rooted in Jesus Christ.
